Hi, I’m glad you’re here. I want you to have a little context for why Question & Craft came to be, and how it differs than other agencies or consultants you may have worked with before.
There are so many voices in the world of consultants, professional coaches, girl-bosses. A lot of them are saying:
“Charge what you’re worth”
“Don’t be taken advantage of, demand respect”
“To compete in this space, you’ve got to charge rates that show you are the real deal”
I understand where these ideas come from. I’ve held them myself. But I don’t like them anymore - .I’m increasingly aware that they are rooted in conflict and commoditization. I think there is a better, gentler way to work and live. Question & Craft is the place where I’m experimenting with new models of working with my (global) community. The heart of all this is - I want to do more of the work I love, partnering with organizations that are focused on making a more just, sustainable, and equitable world.
Much of this transformative work is done by small businesses, bootstrapping startups, and non-profits without margins to spend. In order to do good work where it matters, I want to be as accessible as possible. I don’t want to miss an opportunity simply because they don’t have a budget for a $350/hour consultant, or a $15,000 workshop.
So this is where it gets interesting. Talking money is awkward for most people, myself included. But for change to happen, we have to practice. So here goes: I use a sliding scale when working with clients.
Factors I consider on the sliding scale are:
Your company’s track record addressing human rights, sustainability, and transparency about these topics.
Your willingness to invest hands-on time and effort into your project.
Your potential to make a positive impact on customers, colleagues, the environment, or humanity.
Lastly, my rates are based on what I need to make (you know, to pay bills and take an occasional vacation) and not what I am worth. Separating those two - need and worth - feels like one step forward to a healthier way of thinking about how we live, and how we work.
If you’re doing something that might change the world, or a life, for better - I want to be a part of it!
Please reach out if you think we might be a good fit for each other.
